Oil supply hit as tank-lorry workers go on strike in 15 districts

Supply of fuel oil was restricted in 15 districts, including the whole of Khulna division, as tank-lorry workers went on a 10-hour strike on Wednesday morning.

They are demanding withdrawal of cases filed against two workers over a road accident.

The work abstention started at 8am. Other districts affected by the strike are - Gopalganj, Faridpur, Shariatpur, Madaripur and Rajbari.

Sheikh Nur Islam, president of Khulna Division Tank-lorry Workers Union, said an accident took place on 4 April in Aronghata area of Khulna. No-one was killed but police filed a case against two workers.

The union held a meeting on Monday where it decided to go for work abstention protesting against police action.

Four organisations of fuel oil businessmen have expressed solidarity with the workers and suspended supply and transportation of fuel.
