7 die after taking ‘excessive’ alcohol

Seven people including a woman and two siblings died reportedly after taking ‘excessive alcohol’ during Durga Puja celebrations in Khulna city and Rupsha upazila on Tuesday and Wednesday, reports news agency UNB.

The deceased were identified as Sujon Shil, 26, of Galaxy corner area, Prosenjit Das, 29, and his brother Taposh, 35, of Gollamari area, Raju Biswas, 25, from Bhairab Tower of the city, Indrani Biswash, 25, Porimal and Dipto Das of Rajapur village in Rupsha upazila.

Md Kamruzzaman, assistant commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, confirmed the matter.

Sub-inspector of Rupsha police station Md Ibrahim said Indrani and Dipto died on Wednesday at Surgical Clinic in Rupsha.

Khulna Medical College Hospital physicians Alamgir and Omar Faruque said among the deceased, five died at different times between Tuesday and Wednesday morning.

The bodies were sent to the morgue of the hospital for autopsy, they added.
