4 ‘Ansar Al Islam’ members detained in city

Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested four members of banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam from the city's Jatrabari area on Thursday, reports UNB.

The arrestees are Md Shahin alias Omar, Md Saiful Islam, Md Hanifuzzaman alias Biplob and Md Al Mamun.

Tipped off, a team of CTTC unit conducted a drive in the area and arrested them around 7:30pm, said CTTC chief Monirul Islam at a press briefing at RAB media centre in the city.

Monirul said the arrested four used to collect members from districts and train them up at a camp in Karamjol area of the Sundarbans.

Later, they used to take the members to Alikadam of Bandarban to train them up and provide physical training in a month long programme.

All of them were connected by social media and used Facebook messenger group chat for communication for conducting destructive activities, Monirul said.
