Abrar Fayaz, the younger brother of murdered BUET student Abrar Fahad, took transfer from Dhaka College to Kushtia Government College on Tuesday.

Abrar Fayaz was a first-year student at Dhaka College.

An official of the college section of Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board said the transfer certificate (TC) of Abrar Fayaz was issued under special arrangement.

Abrar Fayaz’s father speaking with Prothom Alo over phone said, “All works related to Fayaz’s transfer is completed. We’ve met the principal of Dhaka College to collect the transfer certificate. He (Fayaz) will be admitted at Kushta Government College.”

Dhaka College’s vice principal KTM Moinul Hossain on Tuesday morning also confirmed the news to Prothom Alo.

Kushtia Government College principal Kazi Manzoor Kadir said, “There’s no vacancy in the science group at the college. Still, Kushtia-3 constituency MP Mahbubul Alam Hanif and deputy commissioner Aslam Hossain said prime minister Sheikh Hasina is personally looking into the matter. We’ve also talked to the chairman of Jashore education board. He (Abrar Fayaz) will be admitted immediately after he arrives since this is a very sensitive issue. It will be given special importance.”

Abrar Fahad, 21, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering department, was beaten to death reportedly by Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders at BUET’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the small hours of 7 October.

After the murder, Fahad’s younger brother Abrar Fayaz is now afraid of going back to college in Dhaka for studies.

Speaking with the newsmen at his home on 12 October, Abrar Fayaz said he is alone now as his brother used to take care of him in Dhaka. He also said he won’t stay in Dhaka anymore as his brother is no more.
