A Dinajpur court on Tuesday issued a warrant for the arrest of 23 people, including seven former managing directors of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL), in a case filed over the disappearance of coal worth Tk 2.43 billion from the coalmine.

District and session’s judge Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan passed the order after accepting the charge-sheet submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the case, said public prosecutor M Aminur Rahman.

The court also exempted five other accused as they were not found involved in the scam.

The former seven MDs of BCMCL who face the arrest warrant are -- Mahbubur Rahman, Abdul Aziz Khan, engineer Khurshid Alam, Quamruzzaman, Anisuzzaman, SM Nurul Aurangajeb and engineer Habib Uddin.

BCMCL manager Anisur Rahman filed a case against 19 BCMCL officials with Parbatipur police station on 24 July 2018 in connection with the 'disappearance of 144,000 tonnes of coal' from the mine.

The case was transferred to the ACC.

On 24 July, the ACC submitted the charge-sheet against 23 people in the case.
