The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reforms (NICAR) on Monday decided not to approve any city corporation in the country other than the divisional headquarters.

The decision was taken at NICAR's 116th meeting held with prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at her office.

After the meeting, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam said NICAR took the decision in principle. "If there's no divisional headquarters, there'll be no more city corporation."

He said this policy will be followed in the future and the previous decisions regarding the announcement of city corporation will not be hampered due to this decision.

In today's meeting, the cabinet secretary said, NICAR conditionally approved the establishment of Faridpur City Corporation. The city corporation will be formed after the establishment of Faridpur division.

Other than this decision, NICAR approved 14 more proposals, including the establishment of Bishwanath Municipality and seven more police stations.

These police stations are Darshana, Padma Bridge North and South, Vulli in Thakurgaon, Bhashan Char in Noakhali, Rangunia South and Cox's Bazar Eadgaon.

Earlier, the regular cabinet meeting was held with prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The annual reports of ministries and divisions for the 2018-19 fiscal were presented at the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet also approved the draft of the Cultural Cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will attend the 18th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held on 25-26 October in Baku, Azerbaijan.
