Two girls ‘gang-raped’ in Lakhmipur, Narayanganj

Two girls have reportedly been gang-raped in Lakhmipur and Narayanganj districts.

In Lakhmipur, a 15-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her lover and three of his friends at Paschim Bhadur village in Ramganj upazila in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ramganj police station, said the victim, a resident of Nowapara village in the upazila, had a love affair with Shaon, son of Ibrahim of the neighbouring Paschim Bhadur village.

On Monday, Shaon took the girl to his friend's residence at Paschim Bhadur with a promise to marry her. But he along with his three friends violated her there one after another throughout the night.

On information, police rescued the victim in a critical condition on Tuesday morning and sent her to Sadar Hospital.

Police arrested three criminals -- Imon, Rasel and Sharif -- as victim's father Nur Nabi filed a case in this regard, the OC said, adding they are trying to arrest the main accused, Shaon.

In Narayanganj, a garment worker, aged 20, was allegedly raped by two youths in Kuripara Khalpar area of the city early Tuesday.

Police arrested the two alleged rapists - Arman, 20, son of Akbar Ali, and Sagir, 22, son of Abdul Jalil of the area - as a case was filed with Sadar police station.

According to the case statement, the incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday when the victim was returning home from the workplace after the night shift duty.

When she reached in front of her residence, Arman and Sagir took her to an abandoned building and raped her there in turns before fleeing the spot.

When the victim disclosed the matter to her mother, she complained to the local ward councillor in this regard. Later, the councillor caught the duo and handed them over to police.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bandar police station, said they arrested the culprits.
