The High Court on Wednesday sought the probe reports of shipping ministry and Madaripur deputy commissioner on 7 November, over the death of schoolboy Titash Ghosh, who died in an ambulance on way to Dhaka for better treatment, as a ferry was reportedly delayed for a joint secretary.

The bench of justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and justice KM Kamrul Kader passed the order after a three-member investigation committee led by additional secretary of cabinet division submitted their report in this regard, reports UNB.

Deputy attorney general ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Basar stood for the state while advocate Md Jahir Uddin represented the writ petitioner.

A writ seeking Tk 30 million as compensation for Titash’s family was filed with the HC on 31 July, while the court ordered to investigate the death of the schoolboy.

A day before that, a three-member probe committee led by additional secretary of Cabinet Division was formed.

Earlier on 5 September, the probe body formed by the government to look into the death of Titash, who died in an ambulance after a ferry was reportedly delayed for a joint secretary in Madaripur, found no fault of the secretary and the deputy commissioner.

It blamed the ferryghat manager and two other employees for the death. The probe panel submitted its report along with a seven-point recommendation to the attorney general’s office.

According to reports published in different national dailies, Titash Ghosh, who was in the ambulance on a ferry, died of haemorrhage on 25 July as the authorities allegedly delayed the departure of the ferry at Kathalbari jetty-1 in Madaripur by three hours for joint secretary Abdus Sabur Mondol.

Titash, 11, a sixth grader from Kalia municipality in Narail, had suffered critical injuries in a road accident. He was first taken to a Khulna hospital, where physicians referred him to Dhaka.

On 1 August, the shipping ministry reconstituted a committee to look into the death of the schoolboy.
