Housewife ‘gang-raped’ in Bhola

A housewife was reportedly gang-raped at Char Piyal in Manpura upazila of Bhola on Saturday, reports UNB.

The victim said she along with her son, aged two and a half years, was returning home in Manpura from her parents’ place at Dakkhin Aicha village in Charfasson upazila by a speedboat. There were two other passengers at the boat.

Two more passengers got into it at Janatar Khalerpar around 12:30pm, she said.

All the four passengers – Belal Bepary, 35, M Rased Palowan, 25, Shahin Khan, 22 and Kiron, 26, of Rahmanpur village in the upazila -- forcibly took the speedboat to Char Piyal and 'raped' her there.

In the meantime, the speedboat went to Janata Bazar. However, its owner Nazrul, former president of Dakkhin Sakuchia union unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), arrived at Char Piyal in the boat and beat the four rape suspects.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League.

He allowed them to go after taking Tk 3,000 from them and later raped the housewife and captured the incident in his mobile phone.

Nazrul also gave her Tk 1,000 and threatened to circulate the video if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

Finally, locals rescued the victim and took her to Manpura police station, said its officer-in-charge Sakhawat Hossain.
