Case filed over housewife ‘gang-rape’

A case was filed early Sunday over the reported gang-rape of a housewife at remote Char Piyal in Manpura, Bhola, reports UNB.

The victim filed the case against six people around 12:10am, UNB quoted Sakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Manpura police station, as saying.

He also said deputy inspector general of police (Barishal range) Shafiqul Islam is scheduled to visit the spot at noon.

The victim along with her son, aged two and half, was returning home in Manpura from her parents’ place at Dakkhin Aicha village in Charfasson upazila by a speedboat on Saturday. There were two other passengers at the boat, UNB quoted the victim as saying.

Two more passengers got into it at Janatar Khalerpar around 12:30pm, she said.

All the four passengers – Belal Bepary, 35, M Rased Palowan, 25, Shahin Khan, 22 and Kiron, 26, of Rahmanpur village in the upazila -- forcibly took the speedboat to Char Piyal and allegedly raped her there.

In the meantime, the speedboat went to Janata Bazar. However, its owner Nazrul, former president of Dakkhin Sakuchia union unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, arrived at Char Piyal in the boat and beat the four rapists, the victim said.

He allowed them to go after taking Tk 3,000 from them and later violated the housewife and captured the incident in his mobile phone.

Nazrul also gave her Tk 1,000 and threatened to circulate the video if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
