Three young men were killed in what RAB called a gunfight with its officers in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila early Tuesday.

According to the Rapid Action Battalion's claim, the yet-to-be-identified youths were members of an inter-district robber gang. They were aged between 25 and 30.

Deputy captain of RAB-7 squadron leader Shafayet Jamil Fahim told Prothom Alo that one of their patrolling teams was moving to Sitakunda from Chattogram.

When the team reached Boro Kumirkhal area, a gang of robbers tried to rob them, triggering a gunfight, he added.

The three youths sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight, said the RAB-7 deputy captain.

On information, police recovered them and sent them to the Upazila Health Complex where on-duty physicians declared them dead, said sub-inspector Mohammad Rafiqul Islam of Sitakunda police station.

The bodies of the three were sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he added.
