10th grader girl saved from early marriage

A tenth grader girl was saved from early marriage at Pirojpur village in Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur on Monday, reports UNB.

Hajiganj upazila nirbahi officer Boishakhi Barua said on information about an early marriage arrangement, she rushed to the village along with women affairs officer Sanjida Majumder, local union parishad chairman Manik Hossain Prodhania, the headmaster of the girl’s school and police and foiled the marriage .

A mobile court was set at the girl’s house where her parents promised not to marry off their daughter before 18.

The court also seized the food prepared for the wedding ceremony and distributed it among the students of a madrasa.

The same court, on last Friday, foiled another marriage bid at Hatila village in Hatila Purbo union and sentenced the father of the girl to seven-day jail.
