A section of Dhaka University students on Tuesday staged a sit-in programme in front of the vice-chancellor’s (VC) residence, demanding an end to the accommodation crisis in the dormitories, reports UNB.

The protesters, led by Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) member Tanbir Hasan Shaikat, tried to enter the VC’s house around 10:45am while the university’s precordial team obstructed them.

Then the protesters took position in front of the VC’s residence on the campus at 10:50am with placards.

Taking to reporters Tanbir said, “The university administration has totally failed to solve the accommodation crisis. Actually they don’t want to resolve the problem that's why they didn’t take any effective steps.”

“If the authorities were really sincere, they would have evicted the illegal occupants from the halls,” he added.

On 1 October, the students gave a 15-day ultimatum to DU VC M Akhtaruzzman to resolve the accommodation crisis.

The students also threatened to take shelter at DU VC M Akhtaruzzman’s residence if he fails to find a solution to the crisis.
