Father detained for ‘raping’ daughter in Narayanganj

Police have arrested a man in Narayanganj for allegedly raping his own daughter over the last one year while cases have been filed in Jashore and Sylhet over the rape of two domestic helps, reports UNB. 

In Narayanganj, a man was arrested on Wednesday for reportedly raping his own daughter at South Lakkhankhola of Bandar upazila over the last one year.

The arrestee was identified as Muslim Mia, 50.

Inspector (investigation) of Bandar police station Azharul Islam said they made the arrest after the victim filed a case in the morning.

According to the case statement, Muslim raped his daughter over the last one year when his wife went to garment factory for work.

However, the girl did not disclose the matter out of fear and but she finally told the matter to her mother. Later, the mother along with her daughter left Muslim and started living in another house. But Muslim started threatening them.

Finally, the girl filed the case.

In Sylhet, a case was filed on Tuesday night over the rape of a domestic help with the promise of marriage at Nawagaon village in Biswanath upazila.

Victim's father filed the case with Biswanath police station against three named people and 3-4 unnamed others, said Shamim Musa, officer-in-charge of the police station.

According to the case statement, Habibur Rahman Titu, 28, son of Manohar Ali of the village, developed a relationship with their domestic help.

He took the girl to another house on 11 October and raped her for 10 days after confining her there.

Meanwhile, the victim's father filed a general diary with the police station on 18 October after failing to find her. Police rescued the girl and arrested the youth on the same day.

However, some local influential persons took the duo from the police station in the name of marriage. They proposed the girl Tk 100,000 as compensation to settle the issue which she refused and approached the police.

In Jashore, another domestic help was raped by her 50-year-old employer at Bolidapara village in Chaugachha upazila.

The accused was identified as Kurban Ali of the village.

Victim's mother said Kurban had been stalking the girl who used to work at his house as domestic help.

On 24 October, Kurban took her to a banana garden while she was going to a sweet shop and violated her there.

The girl kept mum in fear of reprisal but later informed her mother as her physical condition was deteriorating.

The victim was admitted to Jashore General Hospital on Wednesday.

Officer-in-charge of Chaugachha police station Rifat Khan Rajib said they were trying to arrest the rapist.
