Section 144 slapped as AL factions call meetings at same venue

The local administration imposed section 144 in Kamarkhara union of Tongibari upazila in Munshiganj as two factions of Awami League called meetings at the same venue on Friday, reports UNB.

Hasina Akter, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), said Amir Hossain, president of Kamarkhara union unit Awami League, called a meeting around 9:00am in support of the ward committee which was announced recently while Anis Haldar, vice-president of the unit, called separate meeting at the same place opposing the new committee.

The ban was slapped for avoiding further trouble, she said.

All types of political gatherings will remain prohibited in the area till 6:00pm on Friday.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order situation.
