The ‘Ninth Bangladesh Book Fair-2019’ began at Mohar Kunja in Kolkata, West Bengal, India on Friday, reports UNB.

Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commission in Kolkata, Bangladesh Export Promotion Bureau, and Bangladesh Gyan and Srijonshil Publishers Association are jointly organising the 10-day fair.

The fair will end on 10 November.

Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen was present as the chief guest at the inauguration programme. West Bengal poet Sankha Ghosh and former director general of Bangla Academy professor Shamsuzzaman Khan attended the programme as guests of honour.

Kolkata Municipality’s mayor-in-council member Debasish Kumar was present as special guest.

Foreign minister Momen said both countries are being benefitted from the book fair and cultural exchange.

Kolkata is chosen to host Bangladesh book fair every year to keep the cultural ties of the two countries intact, he said.

A total of 60 stalls with 80 different publishers, including some from Bangladesh, are participating in the fair.
