Twelve mango farmers of a village in Naogaon have been rendered destitute by an audacious crime as miscreants felled some 10,000 mango trees from 63 bighas of an orchard shared between them.

“We don’t have hostility towards anyone and none of us have any enemy. We have no idea who did this,” said one of the mango growers.

The mango orchard was grown on more than on 63 bighas of land in the village of Jamalpur, located within Tilna union in the upazila of Sapahar.

Once trees grown up, the 12 growers estimated they could sell mangoes worth a combined Tk 1 crore from the 10,000 trees.

Following the incident, Sapahar Upazila chairman Md Shahjahan Hossain, UNO Kallayan Chowdhury and OC of Sapahar police station Md Abdul Hye visited the spot.

The police is working to find the culprits, he added.

He also said investigation is going on. It is expected that the accused would be detained at the earliest.

A case has been filed with Sapahar police station in this connection.
