Police arrested a physician after he conducted a C-section at a private clinic leading to the death of a pregnant woman in the town on early Friday, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Paritosh Kumar Kundu, a doctor of Bandhan Clinic on Jail Road in the town.

The deceased woman was identified as Moyna Khatun, 25, wife of grocery shop owner Ismail Hossain of Khoyertala area in Sadar upazila.

Ismail told UNB that he filed a complaint with Kotwali model police station after his wife died during the cesarean operation. Their daughter survived.

He said the hospital authorities told them that there was no other way to save the mother and child without a C-section.

“They hid the news of my wife’s death during operation and told us to take her to Khulna on an emergency basis around 1:30am,” Ismail added.

Locals caught the physician when he tried to get out of the hospital.

Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali model police station, said they arrested the physician that night after finding primary proof of his negligence.
