Coast Guard rescue 10 abducted workers

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 10 abducted workers, including eight children, from Majherkella area in Shoronkhola upazila of Bagerhat in the Sundarbans and detained one of the abductors on Friday night, reports UNB.

The rescued are Renu Mia and Tutul Mia of Kishoreganj district, Md Manik Hossain of Chandpur, Md Hridoy and Md Rimon of Mymensingh, Md Akhter Hossain of Habiganj, Md Alamin Hossain and Md Arif Hossain of Noakhali, Amir Hossain of Chattogram and Md Parvez of Kushtia district. All except Hridoy and Alamin are children, according to Coast Guard. 


The detainee was identified as Ledu Mia, 36, son of Farid Mia hailing from Kochuri village in Bashkhali upazila of Chattogram district.

Lieutenant Abdullah al Mahmud, a official of Coast Guard West Zone (Mongla) said the on secret information they conducted a drive in the area and rescued the 10 people who were abducted from various areas and forced to work as dry-fish labourers.

The rescued workers and the abductor were handed over to Sharankhola police station and legal action will be taken in this regard, he added.
