RAB detains 6 ‘Ansar Al Islam’ men

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members have detained six suspected members of banned militant outfit 'Ansar Al Islam' from Dhaka, Gazipur and Satkhira districts.

The detainees are Shafiqul Islam alias Sagar alias Salman Muktadir, 21, Ilias Hawlader alias Khattab, 32, Ikramul Islam alias Amir Hamja, 21, Ameer Hossain alias Tauhidi Jonatar Artonad, 26, Shipon Meer alias Abdur Rob, 33, and Waliullah alias Abdur Rahman, 25.

Two teams of RAB-4 launched drives in Uttara of Dhaka city, Gazipur and Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira from 3pm on Friday.

During the drives that lasted for 16 hours till 7am on Saturday, the elite force detained the six suspected militants and recovered books on extremism, leaflets, digital contents with extremism topics, mobile phones and laptops from their possessions.

During preliminary interrogation, the detainees revealed that they wanted to establish so-called Islamic caliphate instead of the existing traditional democratic system.
