HC orders to shut 27 institutions along Buriganga river

The High Court on Sunday directed the Department of Environment to shut 27 institutes, including hospitals, adjacent to Buriganga river for not having environmental clearance, reports UNB. 


The bench of justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore and justice Mohammad Ullah passed the order and asked DoE to take necessary steps in this regard within 15 days.

Besides, the court issued a show-cause notice to the managing director of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA) for submitting false information in an affidavit about Buriganga's pollution, said writ petitioner Manzill Murshid.

The 27 institutes are - Medicare Diagnostic and Hospital, Riversite Hospital Limited, Chadni Textile Mills, Kadamtoli Dying and Printing, TPI Textile Processing Industry, Nurani Textile Mills, A Mozid and Sons Dying, Khadiza Textile Processing and Printing, Agrani Dying and Printing, Suborna dying and Printing, Masud Textile, Sonia Dying and Printing, Jeddah Dying, Seba Textile Processing Limited, Molina Textile Limited, Shams Dying, MJ Dying, Rafsan Dying, Aziz Metal, Alif Metal, NX Corporation, Agrani Molding, Matlab Iron, Perfect Ware, SS Electroplating Works, Khan Readymix, and Mohammadia pipe.
