No charge for onion import by air: Biman

Biman Bangladesh Airlines has waived the charge applicable for importing onion by air in public interest, reports UNB.

The civil aviation and tourism ministry took the decision on Wednesday to help bring the exorbitant onion price under control, said a PID handout.

Civil aviation and tourism secretary Md Mohibul Haque said the waiver facilities will remain in force as long as onion is imported by air. 

He also said all-out cooperation will be extended to traders involved in bringing onion from abroad by air.

A charge of Tk 18 is applicable for each kg for transporting any perishable good by air.
