At least 15 people were injured in a clash between two factions of Kushtia Awami League over a trifling matter ahead of the triennial conference of the party’s upazila unit at Janipur Government School ground in Khoksha upaizla on Monday, reports UNB.

Quoting witnesses, ABM Mehedi Masud, officer-in-charge of Khoksha police station, said the triennial conference of the upazila Awami League was scheduled to be held at the Janipur Government School ground.

An altercation ensued between the supporters of Sadar Uddin Khan, president of district unit Awami League and Selim Altaf, MP of Kushita-4 constituency, over occupying the chairs at the conference around 9:30am.

At one stage, the supporters of upazila unit AL president Babul Akhter and mayor Tariqul Islam appeared there in support of Sardar Uddin, triggering the clash that left 15 people injured.

The injured were taken to local hospital.

On information, additional police have been deployed in the area to avert further trouble.
