A video clip of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader beating a nine-year-old boy with a piece of cloth at Chougram of Singra upazila in Natore went viral on Facebook, reports UNB.

The video clip amounted to much criticism on social media.

The accused was identified as Arafat Rony, office secretary of BCL’s Chougram union unit, while the victim is Mohon Hossain, son of day-labourer Mukul Hossain of the area.

It was seen in the 13-second video footage that Rony was beating Mohon with a shirt.

He made the little boy hold his ears and squat in shame, the video shows.

Locals alleged that Rony tortured the minor boy after he bumped into him a few days ago.

However, the BCL leader denied the allegation and claimed that the incident was a prank.

“Someone might have circulated the video on social media to defame me,” he added.

Selim Reza, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Singra Police Station, said they were looking into the incident.
