Dengue patients exceed 100,000, say official records

Over 100,000 persons afflicted with dengue have been admitted to hospital this year, according to official records of the health directorate’s Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room.

Assistant director of the control room, Ayesha Akhter, told Prothom Alo that the number of patients was based on data from 12 government and semi-government hospitals and 29 private hospitals in Dhaka city as well as from civil surgeons of 64 districts. She said the information was collected only from hospitals regularly monitored by the health directorate.

Dengue spread extensively around Dhaka city from June this year. The hospitals were besieged by dengue patients in July and August. This spread around the entire country during the Eid-ul-Azha festival.

According to Prothom Alo reports, 300 persons died of dengue so far this year. Public health experts president that dengue will remain till the end of this year.
