Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Chattogram south unit members reportedly attacked the convoy of city BNP’s senior vice president Abu Sufian in Boalkhali Municipality area, Chattogram on Friday night, reports UNB.

Md Idris Ali, city BNP office secretary, said Dakkhin Zila Chhatra League chief Borhan and his men threw stones and broke the glass of a Pajero of Boalkhali municipality mayor Abul Kalam Abu around 11:30pm. Sufian was in the vehicle during the alleged attack.

They were returning from the namaz-e-janaza of Sufian’s mother-in-law, he said adding that driver Yasin was injured.

Sufian said the attack by the BCL activists was unprovoked. “We had a narrow escape. The mayor has gone to the police station to file a complaint,” he said.

Neyamat Ullah, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali police station, said the municipality mayor had informed him over phone that stones were thrown at his car.

He is yet to file any written complaint, OC added.
