2 killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

Two persons were killed in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) called gunfight in Keruntoli of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar early Tuesday.

According to UNB, the deceased were Jahangir Kudrat, 32, son of Md Abdul Hakim, from Mymensingh district and Md Arif Hossain, 30, son of Abdul Barek, from Munshiganj.

A team of RAB signaled a Cox's-Bazar bound truck to stop at a check post on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf road, the criminals from inside the vehicle opened fire on them, quoting lieutenant Mirza Shahed of RAB-7 Teknaf office news agency UNB reports.

For self-defense, the elite force members retaliated that triggered the gunfight.

After the gunfight, the RAB members recovered two bodies from the truck and one lakh pieces of Yaba tablet, two locally made arms and eight round bullets.

Prothom Alo, however, could not verify the law enforcement’s version of the incident independently as no version of it was available immediately either from any witness or from any member of the victim’s family.
