Fire broke out at the locomotive of ‘Chattala Express’ train at Lalmai railway station in Cumilla on Friday evening, reports news agency UNB.

This was the second incident of fire at railway engine within 25 days. Earlier on 19 November, the engine of a train caught fire at Kanchanagar Saiadabad in Chandanaish upazila of Chattogram.

The reason behind the fire at Chattala Express’ locomotive was excessive heat of the engine, said Kamrul Islam, station master of Lalmai railway station.

Several passengers were injured as they tried to get down quickly. On information, a fire fighting team from Barura upazila came to the spot and doused the fire that broke out around 6:45pm.

The incident, however, did not disrupt train services, the station master added.
