First JnU VC Sirajul Islam dies

The first vice-chancellor of Jagannath University (JnU), Prof Dr AKM Sirajul Islam Khan, passed away in Dhaka on Saturday. He was 72.

He breathed his last at a city hospital in the early hours, reports UNB.

Prof Sirajul left behind a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

A namaz-e-janaza was held on the JnU campus which was attended by university VC, teachers, students and employees.

Meanwhile, JnU VC Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman and Treasurer Prof Dr Kamaluddin expressed deep shock at the death of Prof Sirajul and conveyed their sympathy to the beavered family members.

Dr Sirajul served as the JnU VC from February 8, 2006 to July 26, 2008.
