Joypurhat Sugar Mills resumed production in the current season on Friday afternoon, reports UNB.

Anwar Hossain Akanda, managing director of the mills, with officials, staff, labourers and their leaders, and sugarcane producers inaugurated the 57th sugarcane crushing programme around 4pm.

A special prayer was also offered before the mill went into action.

Abdus Salam Fakir, director general, agriculture department of the mill, said they have fixed a target of crushing 55,000mts sugarcane and producing 4,670mts sugar in 40 working days.

Joypurhat Sugar Mills is situated on a 3,000-acre plot in the district.

Rabbik Hasan, the general director of finance of the sugar mills, said the largest state-owned sugar mill had suffered a loss of Tk 65crore in the previous season.
