President, PM mourn death of Sir Fazle Hasan Abed

President M Abdul Hamid and prime minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday mourned the death of BRAC founder and chair emeritus Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, reports BSS.

In a condolence message, president Hamid expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death. He recalled Sir Fazle's contribution to the socio-economic development of the country.

“The nation will remember him for long with due respect,” he added.

The the head of the state also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace for the departed soul of Abed.

In her condolence message, prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Fazle Hasan Abed played an important role in realising support, raising fund and creating public opinion in favour of Bangladesh’s great liberation war.

“He (Abed) also worked rebuilding the war-ravaged Bangladesh after independence,” she said, adding that the nation has suffered an irreparable loss in the death of a humanitarian person like him.

Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed died of a brain tumor at a hospital in the city tonight at the age of 83.
