Two Rohingya men killed in BGB ‘gunfight’

Two Rohingya men were killed in a reported gunfight with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Nalbania bordering area in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar early Saturday.

The deceased were Md Siddique, 30, and Md Shahjahan, 36, of Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.

Ali Hayder Azad, commander, BGB-34, said a BGB team stopped a group of people while they were crossing the Naf river at Nalbonia point with huge drugs around 5:00am.

The people opened fire at BGB members forcing them to fire back that triggered the gunfight, leaving the two Rohingyas severely injured, he added.

They were taken to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared them dead.

BGB members recovered 40,000 yaba tablets, a local gun, two cartridges from the spot.
