Dhaka University vice chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman and proctor Golam Rabbani came under criticism from agitated students when they visited injured DUCSU vice president Nurul Haque at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday night.

The students, who were present at the DMCH, asked the DU VC to resign from his post if he fails to perform his duties. The duo had to leave in the face of the students' protest.

At least 30 people including Dhaka University Central Students' Union VP Nurul came under an attack carried out allegedly by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Muktijuddha Mancha at DUCSU office on Sunday.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Awami League while Muktijuddha Mancha is a platform of freedom fighters' descendants.

During the VC's visit, Nurul and his associates, however, elaborated the details of the attack on them. The VC, in reply, said the attack seemed pre-planned as outsiders were identified in photos taken during the attack. He said the attackers wanted someone be dead.

Referring to the proctor, a student told the VC, "Sir (proctor) is our guardian. He was supposed to protect me as I'm studying at the university. He is of my father's age too, but he threatened to expel me. He even said he would hand me over to the police."

Urging the VC to resign, several other students said, "Sir, step down if you think you are unable to carry out your duties. Shoot us. We won't do anything."

As the VC and proctor left the cabin following the outrage, the students went on chanting against them.
