AL leader detained with arms in Feni

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a local leader of Awami League along with arms from Orinda Bari area of Dharmapur union in sadar uapzila og Feni in the early hours of Saturday, reports UNB.

The arrestee is Nuruddin Jahangir, 49, son of Haji Chadek and joint general secretary of Dramapur union Awami League.

After Nuruddin's arrest, his family members held a press conference and claimed that he was falsely implicated in two cases filed by a vested quarter out of political rivalry to harass him.

They also claimed that RAB men arrested Nuruddin without any weapons in his possession and then transferred him to Feni model police station with the cache of weapons.

In a press release, ASP Nuruzzaman, deputy commander and acting company commander of Feni RAB-7 dismissed this claim and said Nuruddin was arrested during a drive conducted on secret information that a group of criminals gathered in the Orinda Bari area.

The elite force members recovered a local pistol with a magazine, a pipe-gun, two cartridges and some sharp weapons from his possession.
