South Asian Digital Media Award: Prothom Alo wins gold, bronze

Prothom Alo has won the ‘South Asian Digital Media Award’ organised by WAN-IFRA, World Association of News Publishers.

It bagged the gold and bronze in two categories in the fourth edition of the award as it took part in the categories of Best Native Advertising/Branded Content Category and Best Data Visualisation.

The result was announced on the website of WAN-IFRA on 27 December.

Over 18,000 media outlets and publishers from 120 countries are the members of WAN-IFRA which was established in 1948. WAN-IFRA works with media outlets and publishers.

Media outlets of South Asian countries including Bangladesh and India are members of WAN-IFRA.

India’s Anandabazar Patrika along with Prothom Alo’s ‘Alor Path’ jointly bagged gold in the Best Native Advertising category.

Unilever’s brand Rin in association with Prothom Alo organised ‘Alor Path: Bangladesh is bright with your light”.

Under the arrangement, the individual initiatives and success stories are published on the last Saturday of every month. These stories are also published in weekly supplements ‘Chhutir Din’ and online.
About winning the award, Unilever Bangladesh marketing director Ferdous Alam said every brand of Unilever works with social responsibility.

“Through ‘Alor Path’ jointly initiated by Rin-Prothom Alo, we depict the stories of those who bring about change through their personal initiatives and contribute to the society.”

He also said success will come when people work for the welfare of the country.

“This award will encourage us further,” Ferdous said.

Prothom Alo in its prothomalo.com site launched a special arrangement on the 11th parliament election-2018.

Prothom Alo got bronze in the category of ‘Best Data Visualization’.

BBC and The Federal got gold and silver respectively in this category.

From Bangladesh, the Daily Star also got an award in the Best in Social Media Engagement category. It bagged bronze by launching ‘Bangladesh in World Cup’ on its online edition.

Manoramaonline.com won the best news website of the year in South Asia.

The Hindu, NDTV Hope and ETV India, among others, win awards too.

The winners including Prothom Alo will contest in the World News Media Congress to be held in Spain in June.
