Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday claimed that the government has successfully curbed pirates of Sundarban, militancy, terrorism and drugs from the country.

He came up with the remarks while speaking at a programme to celebrate his birthday and publish a book on his achievements – “Nandito Sorastromontri Bir Muktijoddha Asaduzzaman Khan” at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh.

Once Bangladesh turned into the haven of terrorism and militancy but those old days have gone now, the minister said.

Referring to the Hawa Bhaban, political office of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, the then government used to release a large number of terrorists by using its power.

“But our prime minister Sheikh Hasina asks us to catch the criminals instantly which enables us to control all the misdeeds, including militancy, drugs and terrorism,” the home minister said.

Religious leaders of the country have taken a stance against militancy which also helped the government curb it, he added.

National Professor Rafiqul Islam presided over the programme where Mostafa Kamal Uddin, secretary of Public Security Division, Inspector General of Police Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary, Editor of the Dainik Kaler Kantho Emdadul Haque Milon, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion Benazir Ahmed and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam were present.
