6 killed in road accidents

A total of six people were killed in several road accidents in Gazipur, Kushtia and Narsingdi on Saturday.

UNB reports, in Gazipur, an SSC examinee was killed when a bus of SA Paribahan from Rangpur ran over him while he was crossing the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Naojor Bypass area in the city in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Ashiqul Islam, son of Abdul Salek of Kuribiswa village in Rangpur district.

Ashiqul had appeared at the Secondary School Certificate examination from Boroibari High School in Rangpur this year.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Gazipur Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. Police seized the bus.

Meanwhile, a prison guard of Kashimpur central jail was killed and another injured as their motorbike was hit by a covered van on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in front of Konabari Central Hospital at the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Ashraf Hossain, 28, who hailed from Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka.

The injured Mokhter Hossain,30, was admitted to a local hospital. The two worked at part-2 of the jail.

In Kushtia, a rickshaw-van puller was killed when a microbus hit his vehicle on the Kushtia-Chuadanga Highway at Khazanagar in sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Siddique, 38, son of the late Azim Uddin of Khazanagar Gorosthan Para area in the upazila.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Kushtia General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

In Narsingdi, three people were killed and five others injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw crashed into a private car on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Gokulnagar in Belabo on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as auto-rickshaw passengers Sagir Miah,28, Kabita Begum,18 and car driver Helal.

Witnesses said the auto-rickshaw crashed into the Bhairab-bound private car from Dhaka at about 4:10pm, leaving the three people dead on the spot.

The injured were admitted to Bhairab upazila health complex.

Highway police recovered the bodies and sent those to sadar hospital morgue.
