The police have arrested two brothers over their involvement in the casino business. Both Enamul Haque and Rupan Bhuiyan are leaders of Gandaria thana Awami League.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police said Gandaria Awami League vice president Enamul Haque and joint general secretary Rupan Bhuiyan were detained in separate drives on Monday.

CID’s public communication wing additional police superintendent Farukh Hossain informed Prothom Alo about the matter.

The two brothers came into the limelight during the much-talked-about anti-casino drive last year. The law enforcement then conducted several drives in the old part of Dhaka, but failed to detain them.

On 24 September 2019, RAB raided the houses of Rupan and Enamul and two houses of their employees and seized Tk 50 million and 705 kilograms of gold.

Later cases were filed against the brothers with the Gandaria and Sutrapur police stations.

In the last 6-7 years, Enamul and Rupan have bought at least 12 house and 6 flats in the old part of Dhaka.

Local people said the brothers are gamblers by profession.

They, the locals added, managed to buy several positions in the ruling party along with their houses and flats.
