The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday raided the office of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited (DESCO) over an allegation of embezzling money through purchasing substandard prepaid electric metres.

An ACC team, led by its assistant director Md Saiduzzaman and deputy director Afanan Jannat, conducted the drive, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the national anti-graft body.

Earlier, the ACC team visited a house in Manipur area in the city, where a prepaid metre reportedly caught fire, and talked to locals, he said, adding that for further investigation, the team raided the DESCO office, reports news agency UNB.

The DESCO authorities told the ACC team that they conducted an inquiry into the allegation and the purchased metres appeared to be substandard ones as per the initial probe, Pranab said.

The ACC team also collected information about the tender for purchasing 122,220 prepaid metres, he said.
