Man killed in alleged gunfight in Faridpur

A man, believed to be the leader of a robber gang, was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Barankhola area of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur on early Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Enayet Hossain, 40, a resident of Bonchaki village in Chotul union of the upazila.

Police said he was accused in 13 cases filed over incidents of rape, robbery and possession of drugs.

Aminur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Boalmari police station, said they conducted a drive in the area to foil a robbery bid. "But as soon as the team reached the area, the robbers opened fire, triggering a gunfight," he said.

Enayet was found dead after the skirmish, the OC said. Rahman said six policemen, including him, were injured in the gunfight.
