Bangladeshis have a strong support for the Awami League government, according to a survey of the International Republican Institute (IRI), reports UNB.

The survey, conducted by US-based IRI’s Centre for Insights in Survey Research, finds a very high approval rating of the government with 83 per cent saying they approve of the job the government is doing.

The result statement of the survey was published on the IRI website.

A significant majority of people approve of the job the government is doing in key sectors, including education (90 per cent), electricity (86 per cent), transportation infrastructure (81 per cent), clean water (77 per cent), fighting violent extremism (76 per cent), healthcare (74 per cent) and keeping peace (71per cent).
The majority also responded that they are generally satisfied with the job being done by their elected MPs.

Some 76 per cent responded that their MPs are either doing a very good or somewhat good job.

The report also finds that 76 per cent of respondents believed Bangladesh is heading in the right direction, citing improvements in overall development of the country (22 per cent), better economy (16per cent), transportation infrastructure (11 per cent), higher living standard (10 per cent) and better education (7 per cent).

Besides, people are generally satisfied with the political, economic and security situation.

According to the report, Bangladesh is facing with the biggest problems like corruption (19 per cent), drugs (17 per cent), unemployment (10 per cent) and security (7 per cent).
