Traffic movement in Tejgaon Saat Rasta intersection in the city remained halted for around one and a half hours on Thursday morning as several hundred readymade garment workers put up barricade on the busy street for a hike in their wages, reports UNB.

The workers of several RMG factories including those of Standard Group took to the street around 8:00am, creating severe gridlock on Mohakhali-Moghbazar road and its adjoining areas, said Abdul Rashid, officer-in-charge of Tejgaon Industrial Police.

The workers of the factories have been staging demonstration for the last couple of days demanding salary hike, he added.

The workers took to the street when they found the main gate of a factory closed in the morning.

Commuters had to suffer immensely due to the aggravated traffic condition during the rush hour.

However, the traffic congestion became normal around 9:30am after police intervention.
