'Coaching centres to remain shut during SSC'

All coaching centres will remain closed during the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations scheduled to begin from 1 February, said education minister Dipu Moni on Thursday, reports UNB.

“The goal is to ensure free and fair examination atmosphere,” she told the media at the Secretariat.

She said the coaching centres will remain closed from 25 January to 25 February. The minister also urged everyone not to pay heed to rumours.

More than two million students are expected to take part in the SSC and equivalent examinations. Among the candidates, 1,024,363 are male and 1,023,416 female. The examinations will be held at 3,512 centres in 28,884 institutions.

Dipu Moni said 1,635,240 candidates will sit for SSC exam under nine general education boards, 281,254 for Dakhil exams under Madrasa Education Board and 131,285 for vocational exam under Bangladesh Technical Education Board this year.

Besides, 342 students will take part in the examination from abroad, the minister said.

The examinations will begin on 1 February and continue until 22 February. Practical examination for general board will be held from 23 February to 29 February.
