Schoolgirl, housewife 'gang-raped', 8-yr-old 'raped'

In separate incidents, a housewife and schoolgirl have allegedly been gang-raped in Gazipur and Manikganj districts while an eight-year-old girl has been ‘raped’ in Dhaka, reports UNB.

In Manikganj, the housewife was ‘raped’ by a gang at a village in Singair upazila early Thursday.

The victim’s husband filed a case accusing seven to eight people in connection with the incident.

Police arrested four suspects -- Md Lebu, 40, Matiar Rahman, Abdul Mazed, and Md Zahur, residents of Charigram village.

According to the case statement, the gang stormed their house around 12:00am and tied up the victim’s husband.

Later, five of them raped her in turns and fled the scene, it said.

As per the information provided by the victim’s husband, police arrested the four, said Habibur Rahman, inspector (investigation) of Singair police station and also the investigation officer of the case.

The victim was sent to the one-stop-crisis centre (OCC) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

In Gazipur, police arrested a woman from Nayanpur of Sreepur upazila early Thursday in a case filed over the ‘gang-rape’ of an eighth grader.

The arrestee is Hawa Urmee, 18, wife of Kabir.

Sub-inspector of Sreepur police station Md Nazmul Sakib said the victim’s mother filed the case in the morning accusing Sharif, 18, son of Sohrab Miah, Sujon, 19, son of Liton Miah, Urmee and Sharif, 20.

According to the case statement, Sharif (former) used to harass the girl on her way to and from school.

After returning from the work around 10:00pm on Wednesday, the victim’s mother did not find her daughter at the house.

After a frantic search, she found her lying unconscious in a bush, it said.

The victim’s mother alleged that while her daughter was going to washroom, Sharif and his associates picked her up and raped her in turns, it added.

Police arrested Urmee for abetting the crime, the SI said, adding that the girl was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for medical examination.

In Dhaka, an eight-year-old child was allegedly raped by their house owner in Jhawbari of Keraniganj on Thursday.

The accused, Siddique, took the girl to his room luring her to give food where he raped her, said the victim’s mother.

The victim was taken to the DMCH, said sub-inspector Abdullah of the DMCH police outpost.
