Eight ex-BCL leaders of IU sued for attack on Rakib

Eight former leaders of Islamic University unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been sued over an attack on the student front's university unit general secretary Rakibul Islam Rakib, reports UNB.

The accused are former assistant general secretary of BCL's IU unit Faisal Siddique Arafat, former education affairs secretary Mijanur Rahman Lalon, former organising secretary Shisir Islam Babu, activists Alamin, Tawkir Mahfuz Masud, Emon, Adit and Hanif Hossain.

Rashida Khatun, mother of the IU BCL unit general secretary, filed the case with Kushtia's Senior Judicial Magistrate court on Sunday night, said IU police station officer-in-charge Jahangir Arif.

According to case statement, around 100 BCL activists led by Arafat, Lalon, Babu attacked Rakib with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Rakib, a student of finance and banking, had gone to the campus for submitting his internship papers on January 21 when he was attacked.

Later, he was taken to Kushtia Sadar Hospital for treatment.
