Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Friday morning, said the university's vice chancellor Kanak Kanti Barua.

Quader, also the general secretary of ruling Bangladesh Awami League, was admitted to the cardiology department of the hospital with respiratory problems.

Earlier on 3 March last year, Quader was admitted to the BSMMU. On the next day, he was taken to Singapore, where he stayed for over two months for better treatment.

Education minister Dipu Moni informed media about the health of Quader around 11:00am today.

"He was suffering from respiratory problems. We seek your prayers for him," she said.
