A man was killed in what the law enforcement said a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Beribadh in Dhaka's Turag area early Wednesday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Shahid Hossain alias Kana Shahid, 45. RAB says he was a suspected robber.

A team of RAB-1 conducted a drive in the area at night, the news agency quoted sources at RAB headquarters as saying. The robbers opened fire as soon as the RAB team approached the area, triggering a skirmish.

At one stage, Shahid was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the others managed to flee the scene, RAB sources said.

Two pistols, two locally made guns and a few bullets were recovered from the spot.

According to the Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), at least 388 cases of extra judicial killings and custodial deaths were reported in 12 months of 2019. Of them, 356 people were killed in alleged crossfires mostly with Rapid Action Battalion and the police before and after their arrests.
