Teachers and students of Dhaka University on Thursday demanded withdrawal of the honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) degree conferred to former Pakistani autocrat ruler Ayub Khan, president Iskandar Mirza and Khawaja Nazimuddin.

The demand came from a sit-in programme, organised by teachers and students of the university’s linguistics department, in front of Anti-Corruption Raju Memorial Sculpture on the campus, reports news agency BSS.

The protesters described the three Pakistanis as oppressors and enemies of the country and said the DU authorities should withdraw the honorary degree of them as they played heinous role during the liberation war.

The university had conferred the honorary degree to them before the liberation war.
