City University fined Tk 1m

City University (CU) has been fined Tk 1 million for flouting the directives of the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court fined the university for allowing admission to additional students under the law department. The department is permitted to admit upto 50 students.

A four-member bench led by chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Wednesday.

The CU authorities have been asked to deposit the money to the bar council.
