Information minister Hasan Mahmud on Wednesday said that the statements of different BNP leaders indicate that they are more interested to do politics over the release of their leader Khaleda Zia, reports UNB.

The information minister made the statement while speaking as chief guest on contemporary politics at the National Press Club in the capital.

Dhaka Journalist Association organised the discussion titled 'country marching ahead under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina'.

"The statement of the BNP activists at various time over Begum Zia's health and her release show difference of opinions within the party," Hasan Mahmud said.

"It seems that they want to do politics capitalizing on keeping Begum Khaleda Zia in jail and her illness. Their attitude indicates that her wellbeing is not actually foremost in their minds," he added.

Hasan Mahmud, also joint general secretary of Awami League, referred to various statements of BNP regarding the demand for the release of Begum Zia.

"On Tuesday, Mirza Fakhrul Islam said that he didn't say about parole. However, I came to know from her family and even saw in the newspapers that Begum Zia must be released on parole, although no petition was filed in this regard," Hasan continued.

"Once Mirza Fakhrul said that they want her release through law and on the other hand, they were saying that they will release her from prison through waging a movement," mocked the information minister.
